Ackerman Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2009

Ackerman Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2009

A predictable year resulted in harvest on October 21st. After a week of soaking and inactivity, the slight, encouraging innoculation of yeast began a fermentation
of 10 days. After 24 total days of skin contact, we drained to 100% new oak; Taransaud, Gamba and St. Martin barrels. There were 4 rackings during 25 months in barrel, mellowing tannins, enhancing aromas and creating the flavors we wanted before bottling. As is the policy, there were no fining agents used. Also, this is unfiltered. Gove Celio and Kelly Wheat made the wines.

Wine Profile

Tasting Notes Having tasted seven consecutive vintages of Ackerman Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon, it’s now apparent that every wine is an honest reflection of that year’s growing conditions. The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon offers more finesse and elegance than any previous vintage of this wine. Credit the cooler temperatures in 2009 for delivering a wine with a complex nose of cassis, blackberry, and spiced plum along with hints of toasty/smoky oak. The vintage fingerprints are apparent on the palate. This wine is definitely less opulent than in previous years, but don’t believe for one moment it’s a shrinking violet. The medium-full body and tannins deftly support the wine’s enticing fruit. The finish is wonderfully long smooth. Enjoy now and watch this wine evolve beautifully over the next 15 years. —Peter Marks, MW
