Coombsville Estate Update From Our Winemaker: 2026 Weather & Grapevine Progress
I hope you’re all enjoying the summer.
As we move through another growing season, I wanted to take a moment to share a few thoughts from the vineyard. One of my favorite parts of farming is watching each vintage develop its own personality, and 2026 is beginning to tell a very encouraging story.
After a winter that brought welcome rainfall, the vines entered spring with plenty of moisture and energy. Budbreak arrived a little earlier than usual, followed by a smooth bloom and an excellent fruit set. Today, as the vines move through veraison, the vineyards are healthy, balanced, and full of promise.
The clusters are developing beautifully, the canopies are vibrant, and there is a sense of balance that every grower hopes to see this time of year. While nature always has the final say, the season has given us every reason to be optimistic.
Of course, there is still work to do. The weeks ahead will shape the final character of the wines, and we’ll continue to make thoughtful decisions in the vineyard to ensure every block reaches its fullest potential. Harvest is always a blend of patience, observation, and timing, those decisions ultimately define the wines you’ll enjoy years from now.
Winemaking often begins long before the fruit reaches the cellar. It begins in the vineyard with healthy soils, careful farming, and countless early mornings spent paying attention to the smallest details.
